FM Intelligence estimates that active retail brokerage accounts decreased 0.4% from Q1 2026, compared with a 7.3% fall in matched monthly trading volume.

Retail brokers recorded an estimated 7.39 million active accounts in Q2 2026, according to FM Intelligence, down 26,000, or 0.4%, from Q1 2026 but 1.71 million, or 30%, above Q2 2025. The account base changed little even as average monthly FX and other trading volume fell 7.3% to $30.46 trillion on the same excluding-Japan basis. That reduced average monthly volume per active account by 7.0% to $4.12 million. XTB remained the largest named broker by active accounts at 851,000, while EC Markets reached 322,000 and TMGM recorded the largest quarterly increase among the named firms, adding 66,000 accounts.
